Description: The School of Justice and Public Safety is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor position within the Criminology and Criminal Justice program. This is a 9-month, continuing, tenure-track position effective August 16, 2024. Teaching will include courses in the undergraduate, M.A., and Ph.D. programs in Criminology & Criminal Justice. Applicants will be responsible for maintaining an active independent research agenda relevant to the discipline that includes peer-reviewed publications, grant activity, mentoring students, and engaging in service activities to assist the program, college, university, and discipline.
Qualifications: Applicants for this position must hold a Ph.D. in Criminology & Criminal Justice, or a related discipline-such as Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Economics, or Geography-with a substantive and demonstrable research focus in criminology and criminal justice. Area of expertise is open. Applicants must show strong potential for high achievement in research and publication, undergraduate and graduate teaching, and student mentoring.
If all requirements for the Ph.D. degree are not complete by August 15, 2024, a one-year term appointment at the rank of Assistant Lecturer may be offered at a reduced rate of pay.

- Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in criminal justice, criminology, sociology, or an adjacent field, from an accredited institution. Terminal J.D. degrees, as well as alternative terminal graduate degrees (Ed.D., Psy.D., Crim.D., etc.) without an accompanying Ph.D. will not be considered.
- Candidates must meet minimum qualifications for securing tenure in the UCF Department of Criminal Justice. Thus, candidates must possess a strong record of published scholarship, teaching, and service appropriate for a scholar at a senior rank. Candidates must have prior experience with funded extramural grants and/or contracts, including in the roles of principal or co-principal investigator.
- Preferred qualifications include demonstrable experience teaching and mentoring doctoral students.
- Prior experience with academic administration, service and/or visibility to the discipline, as well as demonstrable leadership (e.g., service as an editor-in-chief, fellowship recognized by one or more national/international scholarly associations in the field or related) will be considered in the context of the candidate’s full record.
- Area of topical specialization is open, but candidates who contribute to one or more of the Department’s core competencies may be prioritized.

The position is housed in a Criminal Justice program that offers BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. Candidates will be required to teach courses in Policing at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Preference will be given to candidates who are also able to teach courses in criminal law and procedure, courts, and criminological theory. Along with teaching two courses per semester, the successful candidate will be expected to conduct research leading to scholarly publications, mentor graduate students, and engage in service activities.
